General Description of Work: The Aquatic Specialist 2-Lifeguard will be responsible for maintaining the safety and cleanliness of the aquatic facility.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:
Maintain Lifeguard Training certification from American Red Cross or Ellis & Associates. Certificates in swim lesson instruction and water exercise instruction are strongly preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Create a positive experience for patrons through professional and courteous behavior.
• Provide life-guarding services. Respond to emergency situations and if necessary administer CPR/First Aid. Prepare and submit accident/incident reports.
• Provide excellent internal and external customer service. Create a positive experience for patrons through professional and courteous behavior.
• Participate in in-service training, orientations and other staff meetings as requested.
• Perform general housekeeping duties in and around the natatorium, i.e. hosing, vacuuming, picking up litter, etc.
• Practice safe work habits and contribute to the safety of self, co-workers and the general public.
• Complete applicable reports and records.
• Ability to work effectively as a team player.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Assume a schedule of flexible working hours, including weekends and evenings.
• Maintain a neat, professional appearance.

Skills:

• General: Effective verbal and written communication, ability to multi-task, ability to follow instruction and complete tasks in a safe and effective manner. Must be able to adhere to safe aquatic practices, deal comfortably with stressful situations, and follow emergency procedures.

• Professional: The person in this position must have the ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement. They must be able to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances. Must be able to exercise good judgment and be comfortable taking initiative with projects.

Equipment Used:

The following equipment is used on either a daily, weekly or monthly basis: janitorial supplies, hoses, computer/fax/copy machines, aquatic safety equipment and other pool equipment such as lane lines, and pool lifts.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis.

Must be able to perform tasks of a repetitive nature without diminished performance.

Must be able to bend, squat, twist, and stand, as these movements are a regular requirement of this position.

Must be physically able to give emergency care if a situation arises.
