Site work to prepare the site for building construction started this month. The site work is expected to be completed in mid-November.
The Architects completed design development drawings this week and
expect to complete all design and construction documents by the end of December.

“Bricks and Mortar” is a classic reference used to describe the construction process vs. the planning, design and fundraising phase of a project. Yes, after more than 3 years of planning, Salem’s Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center is becoming a reality.
The project budget has now been approved in the amount of $39,985,012. The Salvation Army will provide Salem with $35,485,012 in Kroc funds with the balance coming from Local funds. In addition, Salem will receive another $35,485,012 in endowment funds.
The contractor, LCG Pence, started construction of the building last week after receiving approval of the final budget from The Salvation Army’s Territorial Headquarters. The photo (below) shows the contractor preparing the site for work on the building foundation
Foundation work has initially begun on the aquatics center, which is the most challenging element of the project. Footings are also being poured this coming week for the chapel and gymnasium. Utility lines for permanent water and power are also being laid. There will be some minor traffic delays on Bill Frey Dr. as this work proceeds.
Within 24 hours after footings were poured, masonry work started. Shown below is the construction of the masonry wall located between the leisure pool and the competition pool. The on-site workforce will continue to grow steadily as more of the foundation elements of the project are completed.
With the budget approved and construction under way, The Salvation Army will now focus on partnerships and collaborations. Our consultant, Ballard and King, is coming to Salem this week to work with staff on the developlment of partnerships agreements with key non-profit agencies. These intial agreements will be used as a basis for developing agreements with many other organizations and businesses that have expressed interest in the Kroc Center programs.
Thank you everyone for your support in helping make this project a reality.
Coming soon, some exciting drawings of the building’s interior.
